When he lead Heroes U.K. into a studio to record their debut EP, Jeff Hemmelgarn had long ago decided that he would only write and sing music that felt vital to him. On first listen, their songs are alternative rock with soulful vocals; on second and third listen, they are something more multi-layered; “’Boy Wonder’ is a song about a family coming apart,” Jeff explains, “I am reminding the boy that he will be okay, that he is still a super-hero, a ‘boy wonder’ of sorts. Ultimately, our songs are about hope.”
